Crawlspace in Conway, SC
Challenge
All the homes in this Conway community were built with crawlspaces. Though South Carolina has mild temperatures, the homeowner noticed their floors stayed cold. From purchased they knew the home had some moisture barrier in their crawlspace, but decided to call Carolina Energy Conservation to inspect the space. Our Comfort Specialist shared pictures of the worn out barrier and explained the inefficiency of the ground cover used without a true encapsulation.
Solution
The Homeowner chose to encapsulate their crawlspace with our CleanSpace® vapor barrier. It is a 20 mil vapor barrier that is puncture and tear resistant. It is made from an anti-microbial agent that is blended into the liner to kill mold and bacteria. For a vapor barrier to effective in the long term, it must be durable. Our vapor barrier is like a 7-ply sandwich of high and low-density polyethylene with polyester-cord reinforcement, the liner is treated with an antimicrobial finish that protects against mold and mildew growth on or under the CleanSpace® liner. The CleanSpace® liner significantly outperforms thin and easy-to-tear 6-mil liners that are commonly used as vapor barriers and is also UV resistant as opposed to 6-mil liners that typically crumble and disintegrate in a short period of time.
Looking to have a vapor barrier installed in your crawl space? This home owner has now eliminated mold growth and all those bad odors entering their home!
